The official flower of Hawaii

A long time ago, in a room that is probably far away from you, Hawaii's 'powers-that-be' chose as it's official state flower the hibiscus...a flower that has no beautiful fragrance. But let that not deter you, for what it DOES have is exquisite color and beauty. So it's no surprise that you'll find hibiscus-es in many places around here.

These grow WHERE?!

A favorite of landscape architects, you'll find these easy-to-grow plants a welcome addition to your indoors. Or, if you live in a climate that is similar to ours, you may give consideration to some outdoor planting. Some years ago, we were pleased to provide a hefty supply of our slips to an organization who wanted to surround their building in Florida with Hawaiian hibiscus! If you live in an area that has harsher climates (think New York), then keep them out in the summer, but definitely bring them in for the fall and winter.

Once, on a trip to Rome, Italy, we saw hibiscus was a pretty common ornamental. So don't be afraid to try your hand at growing these! 

Oh what colors!

Whether you saw our state flower in the "wild" while hiking here, or if you noticed them around the various shops and stores, you know that the variety in colors catch the eye. 

Which is why we sell a few different colors. Although the red is the most popular, we also offer yellow, pink and orange varieties depending on availability.

How to grow a Hibiscus:

Plant the hibiscus cutting in vermiculite and perlite, and keep in a sunny area.  Keep it constantly moist, and in about 2 or 3 months, it will have enough roots and should be transplanted in a potting soil mix with good drainage.  Feed it with a 16-16-16 fertilizer every 6 to 8 weeks.  You'll find that your hibiscus will appreciate being kept in full sun (needed to bloom) and with a moderate temperature range between60℉ to 85℉.
